The Writer's Block Story Republic

Stories and creativity waiting to be released in The Writers’ Block

Hidden deep in the campus at Cornwall College Camborne is a mysterious and glorious mini world dedicated to story, creative writing and the power of language.  This place is The Writers’ Block. A place to be inspired and a place to write.

Starting in September there is a whole programme of events and workshops for the young and young at heart, for both enthusiastic and reluctant writers, for schools and home educators.

For keen and aspiring young writers aged 13-18, in partnership with The Minack Theatre, there is a Young Writers Group led by the fabulous writer and tutor Jane Pugh.  Talented illustrator Keith Sparrow will lead monthly Manga Drawing sessions for 11-18 year olds.

Take a look at the wonderful illustrated map created by Keith Sparrow from our Cultural Ambassador sessions.

For adult writers The Writers’ Block has developed a programme which launches in September with Man Booker long listed author of The Many, Wyl Menmuir who will be Gathering Ideas for writing from many sources.  Jane Pugh in October in a workshop entitled from Tragedy to Triumph will explore one’s own story, and well known Kneehigh and Radio 4 playwright and poet, Annamaria Murphy, will explore Teachers as Writers.

For poetry enthusiasts or for those who’ve always wanted to know more, former Head of English, Rob Lane is running three sessions on poetry from 19th century to the modern day, Romantic to Realist Poetry – focusing on the big themes such as love and war.

“We want to fill The Writers’ Block with children and adults who by the time they leave are bursting to write and share their stories – sales of notebooks will soar!”
– Amanda Harris, director of KEAP and The Writers’ Block
