An exciting opportunity has arisen for music practitioners in Cornwall on Tuesday 17th of April 2018. In partnership with the Cornwall Music Network, The F Word, a collective of 3rd year management students, invite you to an evening of enlightenment, entertainment and networking – a music industry forum tailored to you – your questions, your interests, your needs.
The F Word originated in 2016 with the aim of addressing gender inequality within the music industry. Their first music event, taking place at Woodlane Social Club in Falmouth, was a gig entirely made and run by women, from the technicians to the performers, and had a positive impact on the local music community. Now in 2018, the team are looking to address wider issues affecting all practitioners within the industry, with their latest event on Tuesday the 17th of April (time and venue tbc).
This evening event will feature a panel of music professionals who will address current challenges facing the local music community, as well as broader sector issues. These discussion points will be introduced through short film interviews with local venue managers and musicians, which will be interspersed throughout.
Current confirmed panellists include:
This informal discussion will be followed by a guided networking session – sharing experiences and building connections between professionals, practitioners and students.
The tailored element of this event allows for the experience to be beneficial for each audience member. The more you engage, the more you will get out of it. The team want to know what YOU want from the event. What are your questions? Who would you like to speak to? What issues are you facing as a musician? As an independent venue? When booking your ticket, the team will conduct a pre-event survey, giving you the chance to tell us this information.
By doing so, we can then build it into the discussion and networking, making it a more rewarding experience for you.
This event aims to educate and establish connections between Cornwall and London, between Falmouth University and cultural organisations and current and future practitioners. We are all students of the industry, learning as we go, developing our skills, and as they say it’s not always what you know it’s who you know. Networking is a useful skill for anyone working within the industry and by creating a shared space for practitioners to come together we can celebrate and build Cornwall’s music community.
