This month we’d like to highlight one of our great local accommodation providers as our cultural ambassador for August. Vivienne Westfoot runs The Field House in Trewellard offering beautiful coastal rooms with fabulous seascape views, as well as wholesome home cooked Cornish dishes. She loves to encourage guests to explore Cornwall’s great outdoors and share all that our beautiful duchy has to offer 365 days a year. Read on to find out about her favourite places and special Cornish recommendations…
Viv Westfoot, The Field House, Trewellard. On the stunning North Cornwall Coast between Lands End & St Ives.
My family and I just love all that is natural and wild about Cornwall. We encourage our guests to get outdoors – walk the coast, (the Field House looks right out on to ‘Poldark’ country!) get in the water and swim/surf, get on the water and paddle/sail, catch some outdoor theatre and see a show or visit the Geevor mine for some local history.
I absolutely loved the CScape promenade circus theatre performance through the gardens, in the trees and on the beach at Trebah.
All the alfresco theatre events. We are spoiled for choice! This week we are at the Plen in St Just for Miracle Theatre‘s ‘A Perfect World’
Well for me it’s all about family in my ‘free’ time! Our perfect day is at Boat Cove, our own Pendeen special gem: swimming, picnicing, kids rock scrambling and in the rock pool, finishing up with a barbecue supper. Blissful, simple and perfect.
A little cliche and corny perhaps, but it has to be the Dalai Lama… if he could put up with my banter!
We love Kneehigh’s Asylum – this year on the beach at Carlyon Bay. Their ‘Roger Salmon Private Detective’ in and around the Geevor Mine many years back was one I really remember well, brilliant, ending out on the cliffs below the mine with a firework and bonfire. Quirky at its best!
Well Eden of course, but we love the music at The Great Estate Festival in the beautiful grounds of Scorrier House. In fact Cornish festivals are very much ‘a thing’ these days. We have a brilliant festival line up this summer and get ever more popular. Cornish festivaling is very much ‘a thing’!
Easy – out across the fields from the Field House garden, down to the sea, turn left and along the coast to Sennen.
From the sea! We love Cornish produce here at The Field House and our motto when it comes to food is Simple-Honest-Wholesome. We like to eat at places that pride themselves of fresh seafood and fresh Cornish produce. We do love the Porthminster Beach Cafe in St Ives for a special treat.
We love Marine Discovery’s Wild Sealife watching adventure aboard their catamaran boat Shearwater II. Polly, my daughter, was privileged to see porpoises on her last time out.
Well it’s not exactly a best kept secret but Rogue is one we will always recommend to families. A quirky outdoor theatre experience that is hard to match. We even took the whole of Pendeen School to ‘Winter Wood’ so that the pupils all got the chance to experience something magical.

I absolutely love Cornwall for all it has to offer. Rich cultural history with its mining heritage and world renowned fishing industry, its glorious festivals and vast array of outdoor theatre opportunities. We are so lucky to live in Cornwall and we are very very happy to share its rich and bountiful culture and beauty with our Field House guests.
