It’s a gem with indoor and outdoor spaces to explore. You start your visit walking through an interactive discovery centre which explains a little more about the site.
You’ll find out how Cornwall’s largest mining industry changed the world and the amazing uses of china clay in our lives to this day. Look out for children’s making activities – often in this area.
Outside Wheal Martyn is packed with beautiful original buildings, vintage items, trucks, trains and tools to check out.
There’s a fantastic outdoor adventure play area – a beautiful wooden course that takes you through the trees via climbing, balancing and, of course, running. There’s a lovely picnic area here too.
The café by the entrance has a great menu and proper mini meals for your small people … help them fuel up for more running around – there are 26 acres to explore if they need to let off more steam!
Don’t miss the working open clay pit – it’s HUGE … the people working down there and their diggers and kit look the size of children’s toys … it’s awesome!
We weren’t able to leave in a hurry – we were endlessly pulled back to the steam train, and the play area – of course.
