Royal Cornwall Show 2018

Another year, another incredible Royal Cornwall Show, and the chance for us to not only share a taster of the exceptional performances, opportunities and produce right on our doorstep, but also to meet loads of you – the wonderful people who share our passion for promoting, and experiencing, Cornish culture, heritage and creativity.

Our marque, a relaxing escape from the hot June sunshine, was a hive of activity and chatter.

Mark Trevethan, the Cornish Language Lead from Cornwall Council, was teaching Cornish phrases to some rather interesting characters (thank you Miracle Theatre for the fantastic dressing up box!)…

…before encouraging them to create some Cornish bunting with Tough Dough… featuring farmyard animals, fish, ice cream, seagulls and surfers!

WildWorks, armed with mountains of wool (and bucket loads of patience), offered a quiet retreat from the RCS hustle and bustle with the opportunity to contribute to their production, 100: UnEarth, taking place at The Lost Gardens of Heligan in July. Everyone, from absolute beginners to experienced needle-smiths, could knit their bit for a giant knitted torpedo and add heartfelt letters to the Field of Loss (both of which will feature in the show). Dressed in WW1 soldier uniform, The Trench Bodmin team joined us to recruit brave audiences for their incredible, large scale outdoor immersive theatre, taking place between the 18th June and 15th July. Stepping back in time, they encouraged visitors to imagine being a Cornishman in the trenches and facing the task of writing a #LetterHome to their loved ones. We were also joined by the fundraising team from Hall for Cornwall who were displaying, and explaining, their refurbishment plans over the next couple of years. You can read about all of the key changes to the venue here and we look forward to seeing, and experiencing, the transformed theatre in 2020.

Now, we couldn’t have a marquee celebrating Cornwall without sharing the abundance of quality food and drink producers all around us and what better way to showcase some of these tasty creations than offering up stack loads of samples? With World-famous Cornish Blue served with hunks of Vicky’s bread, and Boddington’s strawberries and The Brownie Baker brownies with dollops of Trewithen’s clotted cream, all washed down with Cornish Country Cordials, it was a proper Cornish feast!

Throughout the show our skilled face painter Holly Burns was hard at work adding beautiful designs and lashings of glitter to the faces of those big and small.

We had a brilliant three days at Royal Cornwall Show and are proud to have contributed to Cornwall Council’s 3rd prize in the Trade Exhibits category . Thank you to everyone who came and spoke to us and joined in the fun!
