Rhiannon Mann The Waymarker Cornwall 365 Ambassador of the Month February

February 2017's Ambassador of the Month: Rhiannon Mann – The Waymarker cafe & restaurant

February’s Ambassador of the Month

Name / name of business / whereabouts in Cornwall are you based?
Rhiannon Mann, The Waymarker cafe & restaurant. Near Constantine (Helford)

What have you done to promote Cornwall’s heritage and culture?
I am very active on social media and as well as documenting my own experiences I’m keen to share others. I write a blog and have regularly joined the the Cornwall 365 activities and information days. I participated in the Constantine Granite map trail which is an audio walk. I am making a film of the memories of an old granite worker and I use my days off to explore Cornwall’s heritage.

What has been your most useful Cornwall 365 experience or tool?
Being part of the Cornwall 365 mapping exercise for Helston. My business falls between the Falmouth & Helston maps and it made me more aware of what’s around me and I am able to pass that knowledge on. It’s an easy tool to use and I regularly recommend places to go and things to do from the map.

Best experience you’ve experienced (in Cornwall)
Heritage Coasteering with The Newquay Activity Centre. I’m still shaking! It was an amazing adrenaline experience with fascinating insights into the heritage, myths and legends of the Newquay coastline. I LOVED it!

The family taken care of. The business is taken care of. What is your perfect day & evening in Cornwall?
Walking a stretch of the ‘Tin Coast‘, part of the Cornish Mining World heritage Site. I’d start at Geevor Tin Mine, then walk along the coastpath to Levant Mine and onto Botallack . For Lunch I’d go to the Gurnard’s Head, then stroll around Chysauster Village followed by cocktails in Mousehole watching the sunset rounded off with dinner at No. 2 Fore Street.

You have free tickets to the performance of your choice. Who would you take with you (living or dead)?
Rowena Cade. And I’d take her to The Minack to see what she thought of modern performance.

Most unusual performance space you have been to?
Penlee Park Open Air Theatre – it’s magical.

Best live music venue in Cornwall
Any Cornish harbour wall with Sea Shanties.

Your favourite walk?
Durgan. And all around The Helford.

Best place in Cornwall to get food?
Asides from The Waymarker? Got to be Emily Scott’s place, St Tudy Inn.

Name one, really different excursion
Kayaking with Koru Kayaking up The River Helford to Frenchman’s Creek.

What’s your 2nd best kept secret about Cornwall?
All the Bronze Age & Iron Age Fogous, settlements and other remains littered across Cornwall. In particular, Piskies Hall, less than 400m from here.

If not Cornwall, where?
The Jurassic Coast. I was an archaeologist in another life.
