October Highlights

The summer is coming to an end, and there’s a nip in the air.  As the high season is winding down for another year there is still plenty to see and do as autumn draws closer. Here are our top picks for October:

Falmouth Oyster Festival 8th – 11th, Events Square Falmouth

Falmouth hosts one of its biggest and best festivals on their calendar, bringing together two loves of Falmouth; great food and great music.  Hosted at Events Square, with cooking demonstrations, live music and arts and crafts stalls, this is one not to be missed.

Terry Frost Exhibition 10th October 2015 – 9th January 2016, Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange 

In celebration of Terry Frost’s centenary, Newlyn Art Gallery and The Exchange present a collection of his most significant work. This fresh look at the artist’s bold pieces is curated by Tate St.Ives.

Lowender Peran Festival 14th – 18th (Newquay)

Lowender Peran moves to Newquay this year, bringing you a wealth of Celtic heritage from across the County and beyond.  There’s Cornish dancing, music, wrestling and even a silent Ceilidh disco.

Bikelights 17^th October, Wadebridge 6:45pm

Bikelights is a magical illuminated bicycle procession. How do I take part, you ask? All you’ll need is a bike,

Some lights and plenty of imagination.  The theme this year is ‘Circles and cycles’ so expect planets, solar systems and lots of things that spin.

Spiltmilk Dance: ‘Blast from the Past’ 17^th October,  Tolmen Centre,Constantine

Rogue theatre: ‘Dead of Night Dance’  27th Oct-1st Nov, Tehidy Woods, nr North Cliff Entrance, Nr. Portreath Daily @ 2pm , 5pm and 8pm. 

A wicked and wonderful Halloween celebration in the woods, with theatre and adventure, thrills, frights and delights. Short stories are played out on Mrs Logan’s stage in a spook show with snake-haired women, grave digging science, cursed Egyptian mummies, bewitched dolls and lost souls…

James Wilton Dance: ‘Last Man standing’: 12th Budehaven Community School, 13th Acorn, Penzance, 14th Looe Community School.

The Clockwork Moth: The Devil with Three Golden Hairs – Sunday 11th October, 14:30 @ The Centre Newlyn Art Gallery

Interweaving shadow puppetry, storytelling and live music, this gem by the Brothers Grimm is dark, funny and enchanting. It captures the imagination of audiences young and old.

KEAP- Wonderful world of Oliver Jeffers, Various dates 3rd October – 13th December @ Merlin building at Cornwall College, Pool.

An enchanting interactive exploration of Oliver Jeffers best loved stories. Families can immerse themselves in the worlds of ‘How to Catch a Star’, ‘Up and Down’ and ‘The Way Back Home’. This exhibition celebrates 10 years since ‘How to Catch a Star’ was first published.
